Trusting the membership

I have changed the permissions on the blog comment area to allow anonymous commenting.
I would not want to limit your ability to comment about the important decisions to be made in the next election.

what can be done about companies that start off-shoot companies, seemingly, enabling them to not use union hands.

My opinion is, that if we have a CBA with a company or organization, all effort must be made to apply that CBA to all their 'Alternative' endeavors.
At one time, one of our producers was going through name changes almost biannually. We went to the lawyers and were told that they could call themselves the 'Good Ship Lollipop' if they wanted to but we still had a binding agreement with those producers, in whatever name they called themselves.
I think if we sign a contract in good faith and some tries to circumvent it by whatever means, we should inform them this is a violation and proceed from there.
Most times that will suffice.
If not, we can take it to, dare I say it, arbitration.

Please further explain the statement in your letter - "The Work that is assigned should be made by the office of the Business Agent and not by anyone else."

Our local leadership is very "white male" dominated. Do you see minorities and women as having any better voice through you as BA?
